Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from the family members, she was raised up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to the word association. Ford was attracted to acting in her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she was not a fit. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her fellow students. Ford graduated in 1993 but, by that time, she had already made her television debut in the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
